When you request a highly specific combination, the pool of available vehicles shrinks significantly. If a manufacturer uses an allocation system rather than custom ordering, finding a precise match requires waiting for a dealership to receive that exact vehicle in their pipeline.

Factory Orders vs. Allocations
If the manufacturer of your desired vehicle accepts factory orders, you can specify the exact color and trim you want. The tradeoff is the waiting period, which can range from several weeks to several months depending on the model and factory capacity.
For manufacturers that operate strictly on allocation, such as Toyota, true custom ordering is not possible. Dealerships receive a list of vehicles they are scheduled to get. They can sometimes request changes to these allocations before production begins, but the manufacturer has the final say. In these cases, finding your specific color and trim means finding a dealership that has already been allocated that exact vehicle.

Flexibility and Compromise
