Understanding dealership inventory dynamics
Franchise dealerships operate as open retail environments. They have multiple salespeople working simultaneously, all trying to sell the vehicles on the lot. A car is never officially reserved or pulled off the market until a customer signs the final paperwork and provides payment.
Because of this dynamic, a vehicle that is available in the morning might be sold by the afternoon. Even if you have an appointment to see a specific car, another customer could walk in off the street an hour before you and purchase it.
Dealerships will not hold a vehicle based solely on a scheduled appointment. The automotive retail industry operates strictly on a first-come, first-served methodology. This means inventory status can change rapidly without prior notice.
Dealing with unexpected unavailability
If you arrive at the dealership and the salesperson informs you the car has been sold, there is unfortunately nothing that can be done to retrieve that specific vehicle. The transaction with the other buyer is binding.
In some cases, the dealership might have a highly similar vehicle in stock, perhaps in a different color or with a slightly different option package. You can choose to look at this alternative vehicle while you are already at the location.
If the dealership has no acceptable alternatives, your appointment at that location concludes. You are under no obligation to consider vehicles that do not meet your requirements just because you made the trip.
Finding a replacement vehicle
When a vehicle is sold before your arrival, you should contact us immediately. Let us know what happened so we can update our records and begin searching the inventory again.
We will run a new search across the dealership network to find another vehicle that matches your original criteria. We look for the same make, model, and trim level at different franchise locations in the area.
Once we locate a suitable replacement, we will schedule a new appointment for you at the new location. We understand this situation is frustrating, but it is an inherent reality of purchasing from active dealership inventory.
